Helen Wang found Tango in Buenos Aires, Argentina. Or rather Tango found her. After coming back from Buenos Aires in 2010, she decided to learn tango professionally. With her training in dancing and classical music growing up, she quickly excelled in tango and she won 1st place at the USA Tango Championship NYC “Stage” category with her dance partner in 2013. However, she was more drawn by the connection and the improvisation elements of this dance, so she quitted her full time job and stayed in Buenos Aires again and did intensive training with renowned maestros. Her profound understanding of the dance is based on her studies with the maestros in all dance disciplines as well as her continuous own self research. Her intellectual approach to tango has made her a respectable tango instructor. Helen has a skilled teaching style that simplifies complex dance figures. Her dance is distinctive, sensual and playful with humor.
Helen Wang is a professional tango dancer based in NYC with over 8 years of experience in performing, teaching and choreographing. She has performed at Lincoln Center in NYC, major theaters and milongas in USA and was the main dancer in a theater piece directed by Hector Zaraspe (creative director of Tango Pasion), to list a few.
Fun fact: She graduated from Cornell University in fashion design and management. She designs and makes all of her performance clothes. She has a collection of tango wear. To shop her beautiful collection, please click here.
